End of Season Boat Prep

Ever wondered what products to use to clean and protect vinyl seats, brighten aluminum pontoons, remove mud lines from boats, and prepare your boat for the end of the season? In this article, we will take a look at all the best products for cleaning and maintaining your boats or watercraft.

Why is it important to prep your boat for the end of the season?

As a boat owner, it's crucial to properly prepare your vessel for the end of the season. Failing to do so can lead to costly repairs and maintenance issues in the future. By taking the time to prep your boat, you can ensure it remains in top condition and ready for the next boating season. One of the most important steps in prepping your boat for the end of the season is cleaning and protecting your boat with the very best marine care products from Socar Chemical.

Cleaning/Treating Vinyl Seats & Covers

For regular maintenance cleaning of vinyl seats and covers, Burst! All-Purpose Degreaser makes an excellent cleaner for getting the vinyl squeaky clean. Soap and water can also be used. Simply apply cleaner to the seat and wipe off with a clean towel.

When vinyl has buildup of mold and mildew, it presents a bigger challenge for cleaning and restoring the vinyl. Here's what you'll need in order to clean mold, mildew, and black streaks from vinyl and other surfaces:

Step 1 - Prepare Cleaning Solutions

First, in your sprayer, mix a solution of 10 parts Burst to 1 part household bleach. Next, in a bucket, mix a solution of Wash N Wax with water. Use 1-3 oz. of Wash N Wax per gallon of water.

Step 2 - Apply Cleaning Solutions

Using your sprayer, apply a generous coating of the bleach/Burst mixture to the affected areas of the vinyl. Burst contains special additives that help to blast away black streaks and mildew, while bleach sanitizes the area, killing spores and preventing future growth.

Once the bleach/Burst mixture has been applied, dip the brush in the Wash N Wax solution, and apply generously in circular scrubbing motions to every area where the bleach/Burst solution has been applied. Extra scrubbing may be required for heavy buildup.

Step 3 - Rinse & Dry

Using clean, low-pressure water, rinse the vinyl thoroughly to remove all cleaning solution. Once the vinyl has been rinsed, dry completely with a soft towel.

Step 4 - Protect & Seal

Once the vinyl has been cleaned, rinsed, and dried, now you need to protect the surface from future growth of mold & mildew. Blue Knight contains active silicone protection to seal and protect the surface from buildup and stains. Blue Knight also conditions and revitalizes the surface, leaving it moisturized and healthy.

Spray a light coating of Blue Knight on the vinyl surface and wipe in with a second soft towel.

Cleaning Black Streaks from Fiberglass & Painted Surfaces

When you have black streaks on fiberglass or other painted surfaces, Socar Chemical has you covered. Here's what you'll need:

Step 1 - Prepare Cleaning Solutions

First, add Burst! All-Purpose Degreaser to your sprayer. Next, in a bucket, mix a solution of Wash N Wax with water. Use 1-3 oz. of Wash N Wax per gallon of water.

Step 2 - Apply Cleaning Solutions

Spray a coating of Burst on a 5-foot section of the painted surface. Then, use the brush to apply the Wash N Wax solution to every area where Burst has been applied. Scrub gently.

Step 3 - Rinse

Using clean water, rinse and repeat Steps 1 through 3 until the entire surface has been cleaned.

Cleaning & Brightening Aluminum Pontoons

Everyone hates dull, muddy pontoons. When you bought your pontoon boat, it had bright, shiny pontoons. Why not keep your toons bright and clean with the best ready-to-use pontoon cleaner available - Toonshine?

Here's what you'll need:

Step 1 - Preparation

Start with boat on lift or trailer, away from the water. Toons should be dry. Be sure to wear rubber gloves and eye protection. Fill pump sprayer with Toonshine. Use hose to wet down ground around cleaning area.

Step 2 - Applying Toonshine

Using the pump sprayer, apply Toonshine to the outside of one toon. To avoid streaking, begin at the bottom and apply all the way down the toon. Slowly work up the toon, applying Toonshine to every square inch of the toon as you work up. Toonshine will not harm decals or painted surfaces. You should see the pontoon cleaner foam slightly on the surface.

Step 3 - Rinse

Using water hose, rinse the area in the same manner you have just applied - bottom to top. Rinse thoroughly to remove all cleaner from the surface.

Step 4 - Repeat

Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the inside and outside of each toon.

If a high-polished finish is desired, Metal Magic can be used by hand or with a buffer for a stunning, mirror-finish!
